Washing Machine Repair

Having problems with your washing machine because the drain hose does not drain? This is one of the most common washing machine problems one can encounter whenever the washer breaks down. Many factors can cause this breakage and age is one of them.

If your washing machine continues to fill itself with water and you can hear the sound of the motor, then it indicates that the washer belt is still functioning properly.

Whenever a drain hose stopped working, there are only two reasons – either the drain hose is faulty or the pump in the washing machine has gone something wrong. In this article, we will share with you what you can do to fix this problem.

First Step

You need to inspect the washing machine lid to find out whether is broken. You can make use of a pencil or a long pointed object to poke against the lid button.

Second Step

Check whether the hose is attached to the pipe hole. If that is the case, unattached it.

Third Step

Choose a replacement hose. Two main types of hose are available. You can either choose the reinforced rubber or the sturdier and newer type – stainless-steel reinforced.

Fourth Step

Turn off the source of the water supply. Remember to unplug the electrical plug for safety reason. There are 3 hoses and you need to disconnect them to do the replacement. You need a monkey wrench tool, pipe wrench and a normal plier to help do the job here. Be careful of the water dripping from these hoses.

Final Step

After you have removed the hose from the washing machine, it’s time to replace the old with the new hose. This is a much easier step. Apply a little grease on the faucet and connector and make sure the rubber fits in directly into the hose connector. Complete the job with the hose connector. Take note to not avoid twisting the hose when you setup for new hose. Try to leave some gap behind the washer and wall for the hose.

Help answer the question about washing machine repair

Possibly an expensive washing machine repair?
My washer just made a loud groan noise and stopped mid cycle. I double checked the load, it’s about a medium load with full load water. I turned the machine off and now it won’t restart. Any thoughts? It’s one of those Kenmore units with the dryer built on top, about 10 years old I think. It came with the townhouse and I haven’t got the paperwork on it.
It still won’t start. Nothing, doesn’t make a sound. The agitator still can be moved.
Just tried it agian, it started and shoulds normal, is agitating too. Any thoughts on what happened here? There was no odor of burning rubber like a belt went out or anything…
LOL, that should say “sounds normal”.

Actually, there ARE older Whirlpools where the top pops off like the one guy said… but you have to flip those over onto the front or a side to access the motor, pump and tranny (not upside-down, ’cause the control panel is in the way)… you can’t access the old style like the one in this video.

The newer washers have a deeper tub. This causes users to grab the laundry and pull it to the top instead of lifting it straight up and out. Smaller items go between the basket and tub. They go directly to the pump. Garmet bag is an excellent idea for thongs, small socks, etc. If you can't change how you or others in the family unload the washer use the bag. Another culpret is nails, toothpicks and bra underwires. They go through the holes in the basket.

Do you have a front load washer? if so the water you hear is the balance ring. If you have a top load washer then the drain pipe may have fallen out of sorts. The drain pipe "goose neck" or 90 degree elbow should be as high as the top of the control panel. Most front load washers have an electric pump to remove the water and can sometimes get weak and not drain all the water out. Without opening the unit up to test all the working parts it may be that you need a service call. Good luck…

Back ten years ago all Kenmore stack units were built by Frigidaire. There are two screws at the bottom of the unit. Remove them slide the entire front down and then pull away. You will find the motor and belt right in front of you at this point. You can run the machine with this cover off to investigate your problem more.

Nice Job andrew! Had one of these whirlpool washers that for some reason grew mold between the plastic liner and the tub, had to toss mine. Other than that the washer worked great!

Ouch! Fortunately that appears to have been a small leak so I suppose not too much of your place was flooded. Dihydrogen monoxide is such a merciless stuff. It will find its way no matter what and expensive damage can result from just a few liters of it in the wrong place.

I am retired and help neighbors like this at times. He will probably have $25.00 to $30.00 in the hoses. Would ask Him how much You owe Him. $20.00 for labor should be good if He is only doing you a favor. If He says nothing for labor Offer Him $20.00 + price of the hoses. He may not take it but if He is like Me He does appreciate the offer….

It was just a very small leak but it did left a good sized puddle in the laundry room. My dad had mopped up the puddle earlier but he had to go to work right after we moved the washing machine outside the front door.
